Firearm Training Classes

The Minnesota Horse & Hunt Club offers multiple firearm training classes for adults and youth.

Permit to Carry Class

Classes are open to the public. $99 per person. Classes include 3.5 hours of professional classroom training including MN Permit to Carry Laws, hands-on gun handling and safety, and MN Use of Force Laws. Fee includes all classroom training, targets, use of loaner handguns (you are welcome to bring your own), and range qualification. Attendees must be 20 years or older. Classes are limited to 25 participants.

Intro to Handguns

Classes are open to the public. $60 per person. These classes offer a detailed overview on basic gun handling and safety covering revolvers and handguns in a safe environment. Instruction will cover how to tell if a gun is loaded/unloaded, how to handle them in a safe manner, and much more. Fee includes all classroom training, plus two hours at the range to test out your new skills. Attendees must be 13 or older. Classes are limited to 10 participants. 

**This class does not qualify as a youth firearms safety class**

Handgun Range Classes

◦ The Horse and Hunt only uses professional instructors who are Law Enforcement Range Masters, SWAT Operators, and have experience teaching Use of Force. The instructors will be local active and retired Law Enforcement.
◦ Classes are 3 Degrees of difficulty and must be taken in order. Some students have taken Range 1 twice before moving on to Range 2. Even Range 1 will exposure most shooters to drills they have never tried and may have a hard time putting rounds where they should go on target.
◦ Range 1- Shooting stance, grip, trigger control, use of sights, and introducing keeping both eyes open and tactical movement. 100 rounds required. Loaner pistols provided for no extra charge. $60 for a two-hour class. Max 12 students.
◦ Range 2- Basics are refreshed, then we move to harder drills. Weak hand, one hand, and shooting on the move are worked on quite a bit. 100 rounds required and a holster recommended, but not required. Loaner pistols can be used at no extra charge.
◦ Range 3- SWAT level challenges- You must have your own pistol and holster to work on advanced techniques. 100 rounds and clothes that you don’t mind treating rough.

Shotgun Lessons

Would you like to improve your score at Trap, Skeet, or Sporting Clays? Or maybe you like to hone in your skills for bird hunting? Our instructor offers top notch training at an affordable price. $75 per hour.

Private Handgun Training

◦ Private Permit to Carry Classes are offered for groups of 4 or more at your home or place of business. $99 per person includes 3.5 hours of professional classroom training including MN Permit to Carry Laws, basic gun handling and safety, and MN Use of Force Laws. Fee includes all classroom training, targets, use of loaner handguns (you are welcome to bring your own), and range qualification.
◦ Private Intro to Handgun Classes, range classes, and shooting instruction are available as well.

DNR - Youth Training

The Horse and Hunt has DNR Certified instructors to teach ATV, Snowmobile, and Youth Firearms Safety. To find a class and to register, you must go through the DNR Website: https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/es/index.html. Because of COVID restrictions, the Horse and Hunt Club is not currently authorizing any training classes.
