The MINNESOTA HORSE AND HUNT CLUB ANNOUNCES A MAJOR EXPANSION INTO SOUTH DAKOTA

The Grounds at Oak Tree, managed by The Minnesota Horse & Hunt Club, offers 6,000 acres of premier upland hunting and unmatched hospitality.

The Minnesota Horse and Hunt Club is proud to announce the revival of a well-known South Dakota hunting destination with the reopening of the former Oak Tree Lodge in Clark, South Dakota. Located roughly four hours from The Minnesota Horse and Hunt Club in Prior Lake, Minn., the property offers convenient access while delivering an authentic South Dakota hunting adventure. Vacant since 2019, the property has been carefully preserved and will be restored to pristine condition under the direction of the Minnesota Horse and Hunt Club team.

Renamed The Grounds at Oak Tree, the lodge and grounds will be open this fall for all interested to book a hunt. A full grand opening planned for fall 2026. The property will offer a unique blend of world-class hunting and the signature hospitality that members have come to expect from the Minnesota Horse and Hunt Club.

Spanning approximately 6,000 acres of diverse hunting grounds, The Grounds at Oak Tree will have access for members of the Horse and Hunt Club and additional opportunities for the public. The over 15,000 square foot clubhouse and classic farmhouse offer over 15 private bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, and a sleeping capacity for up to groups of 30.

The clubhouse is designed as a welcoming hub, featuring a lounge, dining room, bar, cigar room, six fireplaces, private game rooms, and a full commercial kitchen. Guests will also enjoy multiple outdoor decks, a patio, and convenient on-site dog boarding kennels.

David Penn, owner of the Minnesota Horse and Hunt Club, has deep family roots in Clark, South Dakota. “My roots are in Minnesota, but my heart is in South Dakota,” he says. “This expansion feels like a homecoming—Clark is where I grew up learning my love for upland hunting and enjoying the central plains. We are proud to bring our legacy of outdoor traditions and great hospitality here.”

Hunting will focus on pheasant, along with other upland species, waterfowl, fishing and more. While guided hunts will be available, the majority of the experiences will remain self-guided, offering exclusive private land access for members hunting with their own dogs. Meals, appetizers, and drinks will also be served in the clubhouse.

One of the biggest differences compared to the Minnesota location is the sheer amount of huntable land. Just steps from the clubhouse patio, members can head directly into the fields — a rare and unmatched experience. Located roughly four hours from The Minnesota Horse and Hunt Club, the property offers convenient access while delivering an authentic South Dakota hunting adventure.

Looking Ahead:
Bookings available now for fall 2025 and a grand opening in 2026, The Grounds at Oak Tree represents both a revival of a historic hunting lodge and an exciting new chapter for Minnesota Horse and Hunt Club members and guests across the Midwest.
