Started and Finished Hunting Dogs

Started Dogs

Our started dogs are between 10 and 18 months old.  Not only will these dogs be at the start of their hunting career, but they will be well-rounded, socialized dogs. They have gone through bird and gun with basic obedience training. Started dogs will be pointing, retrieving and actively hunting in the field.

These dogs are a great option for people who want to skip the puppy stage and go straight into a working dog. Most of our started dogs are at foster homes for the first 6 months of their life’s, but it does take time for them to adjust into their new home and can be trained quickly. We do not have started dogs available as often as we do puppies, and we do not take where these dogs go lightly.

Finished Dogs

Our finished dogs are typically around 3-5 years old and considered professional hunters. They will have gone through bird and gun with basic obedience training. These dogs are typically kept by us to be used in our breeding program and guide hunts here at the club or on wild game elsewhere. Hundreds, if not thousands of birds have been shot over them.

Dogs of this caliber take thousands of dollars in training and birds – but at this age, we like to move them out of the kennel and into a home. These dogs may have been placed in one our foster homes for the first 6 months of its life, but with being in our kennels for a couple of years, it does take more time to adjust to a home setting than one of our puppies or even started dogs would. These dog’s mean a lot to us, and most of the times are the heart of our guide dog program and breeding program. We will not take where these dogs go lightly and may even sell these dogs while still owning breeding rights.
